LIFE ON LUNDY

I am Pete Lambden. I have been happily married for over 30 years and we have three wonderful children. I am a wood machinist/carpenter by trade and from 2012 until 2020, I was the island carpenter on Lundy.

Being the island carpenter means that I would pick up and deliver the visitors luggage, occasionally see in the Oldenburg, be ground crew for the helicopter during the winter, mend broken storage heaters, rescue people with the coast guards, replace broken toilet seats, be on standby with the fire brigade and sometimes do some woodwork.

If you have been on Lundy during that time, then you would have seen me in my Lundy blues, usually wearing a bandana, carrying your luggage or a tool box during the day and after work, sat on a stool in the corner of the tavern by the bar, with my drinking horn full of ale.

GOING GREEK

However, in September 2020, my wife and I decided to swap one stunning island for another and, following a long wished for dream, made our move to the Greek island of Kefalonia.

I am writing this, sat in our small garden, in January 2021. The garden is full of wild flowers; honey and bumble bees are buzzing all around and a hummingbird moth is visiting each flower taking little sips. Above the sound of the bees is what at first sounds like water trickling over pebbles, but is actually little bells attached to the necks of the goats tinkling constantly...

Please check out my blog for the latest stories of our life here in Kefalonia; memories of our time on Lundy and my adventures with wildlife.
