There are 20,000 bee species worldwide, with many of them being in Europe. Here on Kefalonia we have the particularly important Western honeybee and 28 species of bumblebee. I will do my best to find them, but they are quite similar in appearance, so please bear with me. Bees are great pollinators and without them we would struggle to produce vegetables and fruit. Unless you are unlucky enough to come across the Africanised bees which will sting you without being provoked, you are safe around bees. Honeybees will die if they sting you, male bumblebees have no stinger and the females, can sting multiple times, but are not interested in anything so aggressive, being very passive creatures. If you can, please create bee homes in your garden.
