ZITTING CISTICOLA

No, I had never heard of it either. It is also known as the fan-tailed warbler, but there is a fan-tailed warbler in Central America and so the name zitting cisticola was ascribed to this bird. Apparently the zitting part describes the call, which it makes whilst making its undulating flight. It is a small brown bird with dark stripes on its back and head and a pinky-buff breast with thin pink legs. In the Summer, the male has a dark beak, whereas the females are pale.

This bird likes a grassy terrain, so the grass edge of a field or tall grass in a meadow is a good place to find them. They can also be found near the reeds of a marsh or in the reeds accompanying sand dunes. They seem to stay away from trees. This bird I found along the reedy edge of Livadi marsh or lagoon as they are now calling it.
