There are over 1500 species of gecko worldwide, but only 4 of them live in Europe and of those there are 3 that can be found, if you are lucky, on Kefalonia. The Turkish gecko, the Moorish gecko and Kotschy’s gecko can all be found here, in fact I had seen both the Turkish and Moorish geckos in my first weeks here, although my photos were not up to much.

They have adhesive pads under their toes which allow them to climb smooth vertical surfaces and even ceilings. I have seen the Moorish gecko jumping from spindle to spindle on my garden gate which has a shiny gloss finish. Geckos have vertical pupils to allow for their nocturnal habits, but the Moorish gecko likes a bit of sun too.
