DALMATIAN ALGYROIDES

This lizard is also known as the blue-throated keeled lizard and can grow up to 210mm in length. On Kefalonia, the blue throat is usually absent, being green on males and yellow on females. Their main colour is brown, which ranges from dark brown to reddish, often with small black spots, scattered across upperparts. The black spots are absent on the ladies.

This is a shy lizard, which is also swift and agile, making it difficult to spot. It prefers relatively shady habitats, such as open woods, old olive groves and well vegetated walls. It is also, commonly found near water and rocky areas.

 The female lays 2 clutches of 2-8 eggs in May, the juveniles emerge in July or August. They feed on small invertebrates including grasshoppers, worms and ants.
