YELLOW-NECKED MOUSE

This is a large mouse, with a body length of between 90-130mm. Its brown upper hair is divided sharply from the pure white underside. Its distinguishing feature is a yellow spot or collar on the chest. The amount of yellow is variable to aide confusion. I worked on the premise that the larger of the 2 species of mice, had to be the yellow-necked mouse.

This mouse is another good climber and when not eating my granola, can be found in the canopy of deciduous trees. This mouse can also be found in houses! I found that this mouse hopped, kangaroo like, over open ground and scurried ridiculously quickly through the undergrowth and scrub.

Its diet of seeds and fruit is stashed away in underground storage holes for Winter. This mouse can have 3 to 4 litters of up to 8 young between April and October.
