MANTIDS
Mantids generally have triangular heads with bulging eyes, supported by a flexible neck. They derive the praying mantis name from the way they hold their forearms in a manner that looks like praying when they are resting. The forearms are equipped with spikes to hold their prey and are lightning quick at grabbing a passing meal. Mantids also have strong mandibles (jaws), which are used to eat other insects and unlucky males eaten by females during the act of copulation.
