KENTISH PLOVER

This little bird is a dumpy, pale looking plover. They have sandy brown backs, separated from a brown cap by a white collar. In the breeding season, the male, has a chestnut crown and a black patch on its forehead. They have dark legs with clean white underparts.

Apparently, they are no longer seen in Kent, but prefer the Mediterranean (I cannot argue with that choice). They like sandy places, mudflats or sparsely vegetated ground near the coasts. Kentish plovers also like freshwater lagoons and flooded areas of waste ground. They are more likely to be found here during the Winter, as they head to Northern Europe between March and October. The kentish plovers I have seen, have all been at the Livadi marshes.
