REDSHANK

Redshanks are jumpy and nervous birds which when disturbed, fly away with a loud piping alarm call. Their plumage is grey-brown above and pale below with streaks and barring. Its most noticeable feature, from which it was named, is its bright red legs. It also has a straight red based bill.

Redshanks Winter here and move North for the Summer, so any time between September and April is the best time to spot them. They are usually in large flocks which group together at high tide, but they tend to keep away from other waders, preferring their own company. They prefer coastal marshes, wet meadows and freshwater pools. The redshanks I have seen have been mostly individuals and have all been spotted at Livadi marshes.
