MEDITERANEAN GULL

This gull has 3 age groups, meaning it looks different in each of its first 3 years, see the bible for details. As an adult, it has a black head during the Summer and a dark patch around its eye in the Winter. It has a thick blood red beak with a black band near the tip and reddish- brown legs. Its main distinguishing feature is having all white wings, no dark or black markings, and white eyelids, seen clearly in Summer against the black hood.

As with a lot of gulls, you can find this bird at rubbish tips, as well as estuaries, beaches and occasionally lakes. I have seen this gull all along the South and East coasts of Kefalonia, as well as in the North at the Livadi marshes.
