SLENDER-BILLED GULL

An elegant gull with a bill that is long rather than slender. This gull looks remarkably similar to the black-headed gull, except in the Summer, when its head is white, not black. If you can get close to this gull, you should notice that their eyes have a yellowish-white iris rather than the dark iris of the black-headed gull. Its bill is orangey-red, turning black at the height of the breeding season. It has pale orange legs with white underparts which turn pinkish during the Summer.

The slender-billed gull is rarely seen inland, preferring coastal lagoons and marshes. Saying that, as well as the wonderful Livadi marshes, I have seen this gull along the coast around the resort of Katelios.
