TERRAPINS

Terrapins are small turtles that are aquatic or semi-aquatic, living in fresh or brackish (slightly salty) water. They have webbed feet with prominent claws and shells that contain nerves. As with all reptiles, they are cold-blooded and will seek the sun or a warm rock to harness the heat. Terrapins eat molluscs, small fish, crustaceans, insects and aquatic plants and they can be found by waterholes, ponds, marshes and lakes. Terrapins can be aggressive and can bite, although they do not have teeth, they have a powerful snapping jaw.
