TOADS

There are 5 toad species resident in Europe, with Kefalonia having 2 of them. The common toad, which is the largest toad in Europe, and can grow to a whopping 180mm in length, and the green toad, which is a boring name for a gorgeous amphibian, which is about half the size of the common.

The common toad prefers deeper, more permanent bodies of water for breeding, whereas the green is quite happy with temporary water sources. I have only found the green toad at beaches near freshwater streams, which have dried up by early Summer.
