GREEN TOAD

This toad is half the size of the common toad reaching no more than 100mm or 4 inches in size, but it is more strikingly patterned, especially in the female. The main colour can be white/grey or yellowish to red with well defined green patches. Sometimes the green markings are combined with red or orange spots. Their eyes are green or yellowish with horizontal pupils. The female is larger than the male.

These toads prefer dry sandy environments and can even be found on the beach. As they are nocturnal, your main chance of seeing them is by discovering them under a rock or piece of driftwood. They feed on invertebrates. As with other toads, the female lays her eggs in strings or strands and they can reach up to 4m in length.
