There are 3 species of tortoise living wild in Europe. The largest is the Marginated tortoise, growing up to 400mm in length. There is also the Spur-thighed tortoise, this is a little smaller at 300mm maximum length. The third and smallest is Hermann's tortoise, which can achieve 250mm in length and is the only species present on Kefalonia.
