There are green turtles in the Mediterranean Sea, but they do not nest here, so I shall concentrate on the loggerhead turtle, which does. They are almost entirely aquatic and have flippers instead of feet. They use the front flippers like wings and their hind flippers to steer. They only come on land when the female needs to lay eggs. Not every trip on to the beach results in egg laying, as the female will often make reconnaissance visits before choosing her spot.
