BUTTERFLIES
Butterflies can be seen on Lundy all through the year as some species hibernate as adult butterflies on the island. I had small tortoiseshells and peacocks overwintering in my workshop and in the wood rack. The majority though arrive on the island late Spring/early Summer and are a very welcome addition to the resident wildlife.
Millcombe valley is a favourite spot with many flowering plants including lots of fuchsias. The lower East path is also a great place for butterflies with lots of flowering brambles and honeysuckle. There is also a cluster of brambles and honeysuckle at Quarter Wall gate. This is a great spot for the Highland cows, ponies, sika deer, birds and butterflies. You will also find butterflies on the plateau when the gorse and heathers flower.
