PEACOCK

The peacock is unique and unmistakable with big blue eye spots adorning its dark red/burgandy wings. The underside is a sharp contrast, being almost black which helps it camouflage itself when it closes its wings. It also looks very dark when it is flying.

Both sexes are similar and the caterpillars feed exclusively on stinging nettles. This is another butterfly that can over winter as an adult butterfly. They have an overall wingspan of 60mm.
