SNOW BUNTING

A few snow buntings are seen on Lundy in most Autumns, and what a beautiful bird they are.

I saw my first snow bunting on the wall along the main track, just after the gateway into Tillage field.

They are not shy and will flit ahead of you looking for errant grass seeds.

During my last Autumn on Lundy, for a few days, a flock of 5 individuals could be seen in the heather around Tibbets. They were in their winter plumage of sandy brown backs with white, black tipped wings.

They have black backs in their summer plumage, but you would need to be in the arctic to see that, or occasionally Scotland.
